SEND and Inclusion
Our school is highly inclusive and committed to ensuring that every child with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is fully supported to reach their potential, both academically and personally. We follow the SEND Code of Practice (0–25 years) and use a graduated approach of Assess, Plan, Do, Review to identify and meet individual needs at the earliest opportunity. Our dedicated Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) works closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure that provision is carefully tailored and regularly reviewed. Where required, we work in partnership with families and external agencies to secure Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and additional support. We are proud of our inclusive ethos, where every child is valued, barriers to learning are removed wherever possible, and all pupils are supported to participate fully in the life of the school.
The Brow is a mainstream primary school in the heart of The Brow estate in Halton Village. In addition to our 7 mainstream classes, we also have a pre-school and two Resource Bases for children with complex speech, language and communication needs. Within the bases we support children from all across Halton.
We have very high expectations of all of our children and strive to ensure that we support them to overcome any barriers they may face, through:
- quality first teaching
- a genuine, inclusive ethos
- a stimulating and exciting learning environment
- adaptations to the curriculum
- high quality interventions
- quality CPD for staff
- highly skilled, nurturing staff
- a well-resourced learning environment
- high expectations
- a very experienced SENCO who has also worked in specialist education and for the Local Authority before joining The Brow.

In 2025 we made our first application for Inclusion Quality Mark and were absolutely thrilled to be awarded IQM Centre of Excellence. This is an achievement we are really proud of and we are fully engaging in the IQM programme through cluster work across the country with other IQM Centre of Excellence schools. In Spring 2026 we hosted our first cluster meeting and welcomed professionals from across the network to The Brow to see inclusion in action. Please have a look at our IQM report in the documents section below.
