New to Reception 2026 2025 - 2026
Miss Taylor
Reception Class - 2026/2027
We're delighted you've chosen our school and look forward to welcoming you and your child to the Brow family in September. We hope the information on this page answers any questions about starting school.
Miss Taylor will be teaching our Reception class and loves helping children settle in and become happy members of The Brow Community Primary School.
Reception is a fun, nurturing place where children learn through play, explore their interests and develop important skills in Phonics, Literacy and Numeracy.
As well as learning, children build friendships, grow in confidence, become more independent and learn the routines of school life.
Our learning is planned around the seven areas of development in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Please see our EYFS Policy for more information.

Our Learning Environment
In Reception, children are encouraged to make choices about their learning from the moment they arrive. They explore, play and follow their interests, while adults support and extend their learning. We regularly review our learning environments and resources to ensure they remain engaging and purposeful.
Children learn both indoors and outdoors and we enjoy spending time outside in all weather conditions, so wellington boots and waterproof clothing are essential. We also take part in PE lessons in the hall and on the playground and we love using the trim trail.
Throughout the day, we follow our three school rules: Be Safe, Be Kind and Be Respectful

Starting School Information
Please see the information below for starting school information:
Tuesday 1st September - School Closed Inset Day
Wednesday 2nd September (lunch at home): We would like to invite you and your child to a stay and play session. This session will start at 9.00am and will end at 12.00pm. This is on a drop in basis so please attend at a convenient time for yourself.
Thursday 3rd September - Friday 4th September (lunch at home): We will be inviting the children to stay for sessions without their grownups. We understand that this may be challenging for some children so we have split the children into two smaller groups. We ask that you please bring your child into school both days for their allocated session.
Monday 7th September - Friday 11th September (lunch in school): All children will be attending school together and remaining in school for lunch. They will start school at 8.40am and be collected at 12.30pm.
Please order your child a school meal nearer the time using the School Hub website or provide your child with a packed lunch. You will soon receive an email from our lunch provider School Hub. Once received, you will need to create your account which will then allow you to book your child’s school lunches.
Monday 14th September - Onwards (lunch in school): All children will be attending school full time. They will start school at 8.40am and end at 3.15pm.
Free School Meals
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal through the Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme. However, we strongly encourage parents and carers to complete a Free School Meal application if they think they may be eligible based on household income.
Children who qualify generate additional funding for the school through the Pupil Premium. This funding helps us provide extra support, resources and opportunities to enhance children's learning and wellbeing.
For more information or to apply, please visit the Halton Free School Meals website.
