School Council and Pupil Voice
What is a School Council?
A school council is a group of students who are elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve their school. Our School Council has 2 representatives from each class from Classes 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7. We meet twice every half term to discuss school initiatives and have an input into questions which are relevant to our school. Each term, we will be responsible for implementing some actions based on our school's needs. School council members are elected by their peers at the start of each academic year.

Pupil Leadership
At The Brow we strive for all of our children to experience leadership responsibilities to develop their self-esteem, independence and resilience. Year 6 children participate in a 'recruitment' process each year where they apply for their chosen leadership roles then complete an interview with staff. Roles are then announced and badges awarded in Celebration Assembly.
Our Year 6 leadership roles:
School Captain
Vice Captain
Sports Captain
Library Monitor
Welllbeing ambassador
Eco ambassador
STEM ambassador
When they start school, each new Reception child is introduced to a Year 6 buddy who will read with them and play with during 'buddy playtimes' each week. Year 5 children also 'buddy up' with our pre-school children.
Within each class there are leadership roles assigned to children which they engage very well with. Lots of our KS2 children also like to support staff in leading lunchtime and afterschool clubs. In Year 6 children also take part in Mini Police, learning about the duties of police, PCSOs, completing litter picks in the local community and operating speeding cameras out on Halton Brow.
In Year 5 we have two Junior Safety Officers who work with a representative from Halton Borough Council to promote safety in and out of school.
Pupil Voice
Pupil voice is at the heart of our school community. We believe every child should feel heard, valued, and empowered to share their ideas and opinions. Through school council, class discussions, and regular feedback opportunities, our pupils play an active role in shaping their learning environment and influencing decisions across the school. By encouraging open communication and mutual respect, we help children develop confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of belonging.
Recently children have shared feedback on playground design and renovations, afterschool and lunchtime clubs, how we can complete our 'School Pledge' challenge, charity events. school residential options and much more. Staff also gather regular feedback from children relating to safeguarding, curriculum, learning, wellbeing, and extra-curricualr provision. Some examples from recent pupil interviews are below.
