PSHE and RSE at The Brow
At The Brow, we are committed to supporting every child to become healthy, safe, respectful and responsible members of society. Through our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) curriculum, we aim to give children the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to thrive both now and in the future.
Our curriculum follows the statutory guidance for Relationships Education and Health Education from the Department for Education and is supported through the Kapow Primary scheme of work. PSHE and RSE are taught through a progressive, spiral curriculum, meaning children revisit key themes throughout their time in school with increasing depth and maturity.
The curriculum is organised into five key areas:
Family and Relationships
Health and Wellbeing
Safety and the Changing Body
Citizenship
Economic Wellbeing
In Year 6, children also explore the theme of Identity.
Through these areas, pupils learn about:
building positive and respectful relationships
recognising and managing emotions
mental and physical wellbeing
keeping safe online and offline
understanding rights and responsibilities
valuing diversity and challenging stereotypes
managing money and understanding the wider world
Our curriculum also places a strong emphasis on pupil voice and oracy, encouraging children to discuss ideas respectfully, ask questions, role-play scenarios and express opinions thoughtfully and confidently.
RSE is delivered in an age-appropriate way and supports children to understand healthy relationships, personal safety, body changes and growing up. We believe that high-quality PSHE and RSE education helps children to develop resilience, empathy, confidence and independence, preparing them positively for their futures.
